CanadianEskimoDogs

Approximately 2000 years ago, the Canadian Arctic was home to the Thule culture of Inuit people and their constant companions, Canadian Eskimo Dogs. Playing a vital role in the everyday survival of the Inuit and their families, Canadian Eskimo Dogs provided travel by sled, hunting assistance and protection from predators.

Throughout history, these dutiful dogs have stood at both the North and South poles, serving many famous names in Arctic and Antarctic exploration. With such a rich and proud history, they were honoured in 1988 by a commemorative stamp and again in 1997 by a 50 cent piece.

With less than 300 registered dogs in Canada, Crown Jewel is a proud Canadian Eskimo Dog breeder dedicated to protecting and increasing awareness of this rare, majestic animal.

The Canadian Eskimo Dog is a very independent dog that requires strict and unique training. We start training our puppies at the age of 6-7 weeks and they are ready to work (or to be sold) at the age of 12 months. Here is our sales policy and its rationale:

- The CED is a unique breed even within the Northern breeds. It is probably the most primitive dog out there.
- Training and handling a CED requires knowledge and experience that are unique to this breed.
- The CED can be used as a pet but we do not encourage it. This is a working dog and we are committed to keep it this way.
- Selling a CED to a non-working environment (e.g. pet) will be on a non-breeding basis only. The dog will be spayed/neutered before leaving our kennel. We believe that CED breeding should be based on working capabilities and not on show ring performance.
- No CED will be sold at an age under 12 months unless it is to an experienced CED breeder. This way we guarantee appropriate socialization and training to the dog.
- Buyers that do not have prior experience with CEDs are required to come to our place for a familiarization visit of at least one day.
- During the visit, the buyers learn about the breed, see all the dogs that are available for sale and learn first hand about their personalities. This is when the buyers can make the final selection of their dogs.

Benefits:
- Buyers experience their dogs before the selection - no surprises.
- Dog training during the critical age is done by professionals.
- Buyers are trained prior of taking their dogs home.
- Why not to combine it with a short vacation at Crown Jewel Resort Ranch?
