The most scenic runway in Atlantic Canada Located less than 10 miles from the beautiful village of Baddeck in the centre of Cape Breton and on the Bras D'Or Lake, our airstrip is the ideal gateway for visitors to Cape Breton. Carved out of a slope of an elongated ridge in the centre of our fly-in resort, the Baddeck (Crown Jewel) runway is the perfect destination for the recreational or charter pilot. Unlike most runways that are located on a large flat area, our runway is elevated above the Baddeck River Valley providing magnificent views to the South, the East and the North. Whether you are a guest of our eco-resort, a golf enthusiastic or a sailor arriving to enjoy the Bras d'Or Lakes, you cannot find a better way to access our island's world class adventures than the way of the birds. A fine restaurant (Flavours of Crown Jewel) and our store (Shoppes at Crown Jewel) are available for the guests of our fly-in resort. As of December 2007, a new 60'x140' hangar (The Silver Dart Pavilion) is being constructed. It will include an FBO, a workshop, a weather station, a visitors lounge and the offices of Crown Jewel Aviation. Our airstrip is defined as PPR: Prior Permission Required. This translates to the following tips: - Run-up is done while rolling. Here at Crown Jewel we always have to back track to either end of the runway and we use this taxi to do the run-up. - Turning on our 60' wide runway is done by starting the turn at the edge of the runway with sufficient ground speed to avoid stoping during the turn. If you land on 04 you may want to taxi all the way to the end - there is a turning pad at the end of 04. - Taking off is done straight from taxiing - do not stop. Increase power gradually as the airplane accelerates. |
